Save the Ditch!
I went to Mungyeongsaejae Pass today. It was my second time in Mungyeongsaejae Pass. The first was two years and 6 months ago (it was in spring). At first, we went there to watch tadpoles. We couldn't see many tadpoles in ordinary ponds, even in spring. But there were lots of tadpoles! There were eggs, little tadpoles, big tadpoles, swimming tadpoles, tadpoles that were not moving (as still as a statue), two-legged tadpoles, four-legged tadpoles, even some young frogs. For the first time in my life, I saw thousands and thousands of tadpoles!
Those were the things I saw first. But the second visit which was today was different. I saw many beautifully colored leaves instead of thousands of tadpoles. Behind all these lovely leaves and trees, a great rampart stood upon, as gigantic as a high cliff.
We were walking to the rampart on a road. The road was surrounded by two narrow ditches. These were the places where I saw tadpoles last time. But this time, there was no more water!
'The terrible drought caused this to happen,' I thought. I thought of poor wriggling little tadpoles. They need water to live, but there is no more water! This was cruel.
I shouted, "Mother! Come here! There is no more water in the ditch! I think this is because of the terrible droughts!" Off she came, and she saw just what I saw. She took a picture of it.
We walked along the road for a minute. We looked down the ditch again. There was enough water for tadpoles. But this time, the water was poluted! There was trash all over the ditch! There was a lot of plastic bags. But most of the trash was tiny specs of rotten or dirty things. Young-joon and I tried to pick up the big plastic, but our father shouted, "Leave them alone! Don't touch those dirty things." So we didn't.
I think I have to help cleaning the ditch. Sometimes I saw severely polluted rivers. I would help cleaning those, too. First, I musn't throw trash into water. That pollutes rivers and ditches. Second, I must use less water. That means less water is used and thrown out. Last of all, I must tell other people to save water. I'll do it on the Internet blog and Youtube videos. It will tell people to save our clean water. These three things will make tadpoles and fish happy.
