  • Amanda was looking at her mother, who was busy preparing to take her to her new school. Even her mother looked nervous. Amanda was now in 4th grade. But, she was not an ordinary girl. She has lived in Russia for 7 years. Her father had an impertant business in Russia. So, the family had to move to Russia. But, her mother was worried that she might think she is an Russian. So, she decided to move to Korea this summer. Amanda was very disappointed to her mothers decision. If she leave Russia, she would never meet Emily again. Emily was friends with Amanda for 7 years. But, her mother insisted that they move to Korea. Because of that, she is now wating for her mother to take her to the new school. She looked at the clock. It was 8:30 AM. "Mom! Hurry up! This is NOT Russia! I have to arrived to school by 9:00 AM!" said Amanda. She didn't want to be late on her first day. "Okay, dear. I'm comming! Get my car key!" said Amanda's mother, Juana. Amanda picked up the car key and ran to the garage. Her mother followed her after an minute. They hurried to Amanda's school.

Amanda peeked through the class door. It looked like all of the students from the Russia school was pushed into one room. In Russia, there was only 3-4 kids in one classroom, but here, there are over 20 kids in one room! Her mother saw her hesitating to open the door. "Why are you waiting? Go inside!" she said. Amanda took a deep breath and opened the door. As she did, more than 60 eyes were staring at her. Her body froze and her face got red. Then, a woman who looked like the teacher stepped infront. She said, "Kids, this is Amanda. She is new, so be good to her!". Almost before she finished her last word, all the kids clapped. "Amanda, you can go sit next to Frederick." said the teacher. Her necklace said that her name was Mrs. Jonson. 'Wow, my teacher is married and I got to sit next to a BOY.' Amanda thought. All the eyes looked at Amanda as she set down. It was strange to get all this attention. When she was in Russia, she had always met 4-5 kids. So, she was not used to get stared by 62 eyes. Mrs. Jonson clapped. "Students, I want you to help Amanda with the school work and other stuff." 'I'm not a baby.' Amanda thought. It was definate that Mrs. Jonson was not a very good teacher. The ball rang for break time. Amanda didn't know what to do. All the girls were booming around her. They asked about her old school, her old home, her old teacher, and kinds of that stuff. And they were making a loud noise. But when she said, "I'm from Russia." everybody fell in silence.
