"Asther?" Mother called, knocking on the door. "I've got a surprise for you!" There was a sound of click-clocking and Asther peeked open the door. "What?" she asked in a curious voice. 

    Asther was a shy girl, even to her parents. So she always locked her bedroom because locking her bedroom was like freeing a wild bird in the forest-she really wanted to be alone, by herself.

   "Just please let me come in and explain," mother said as she gently pushed on the door. "Okay," Asther said in a reluctant voice. She opened her door just wide enough for her mother to come in, and closed the door right away. "What's the surprise?" Asther asked as mother sat on the bed next to her. Mother hesitated and then said, "Asther, you know that now that you turned 11, you're going to learn history in school, right?" Asther nodded. Mother sighed quietly and said, "And you know you refused to attend every single history academy I looked for you," Asther again nodded, suspiciously glancing at her mom. "But you know you have to attend an academy before lessons starts. So I had to-"

   Asther jumped up from her bed and glared at her mother. "NO! You are NOT going to send me to history academy!" "Asther!" Mother's voice was firm and angry. "I told you about bad behavior!" Asther put her shaking fist on the bed, then she said in a disgusted voice, "You know you promised me that you won't send me to an academy! You don't send Georgy to an academy! Oh, or is it because I'm father's daughter and you're Georgy's mother? My real mother won't be happy if she just knows...!" "ASTHER MERCURY!" Mother yelled. Asther looked at her mother in surprise. Mother glared at Asther and said, "Tomorrow, at 2 P.M, you're going to go to Mrs. Flitchs', and no more arguing or excuses!" Then she stood up and left the room with slamming the door.

   Asther sliently cried on her pillow that night. Mrs. Flitchs is a live monster! How am I going to even survive? And my stepmother doesn't even treat me as a human being! If only I went with you, mother! Why did you have to die when you born me! Asther thought as she cried her self to sleep, dreading tomorrow and missing her real mother......
