  •  I'd been on my night duty of typing reports on the computer, sipping a cup of coffee - actualy, every policeman was. Except for three of them who cleaned up messes of food and got ready to answer calls, since there were tons of them, and since three calls could call in unison. That was what we were doing at 11 48 P.M. when the main siren rang. Our police station building was the only one in the middle of the city - or more likely, the village. So, we handled very many problems, and so we had almost 50 people in our building. Since we could get more than three emergency calls and some had to stay behind. I worked here for the 11 last years, and I've never recieved so many lost child calls. I guess it's getting cold and the night is getting longer since it's November.

Back to the topic. We also handled some emergency devices that rang when a thief broke in to some place that had this device. And see, they had this device everywhere. And it's night-duty-policemens' work to handle all of them since what kind of a thief breaks into a shop in daylight? We've already handled 2 of the devices this week, and it was only Wednesday. Well, almost Thursday. Anyway, this siren was the device. Lieutenant Windle checked the location of the device not even 3 seconds after it had rung.

"Oh no," he said to us, the policemen, who had gathered in the hall. "It's the Zewery Jewerly! Group 1, Bickle, and Tanaka! Get in 4-no, I'm going too - 3 cars! We must get there. Now!"

I was group 1. I had already been stepping down the stairs when Lieutenant Windle yelled "Oh no", but I had stopped when I had heard it was the Zewery Jewery. It was the very big jewerly shop in our village, and it selled every jewerly- from earrings to jeweled scarfs! But then, I thought it was strange of Lieutenant Windle to sound so confusing. He sounded... nervous, which, he never was as a lieutenant.

But that was not the problem. Bickle was behind me and told me to go down. I did, and got in car 3. Bickle got in next to me. Soon Lieutenant Windle lead us the way to the Zewery Jewerly. "Car 1!" he shouted as he parked his car beside the shop. "Go look around the street and shop and look for strange cars or any people who's seen what has happened." Car 1 drove off, and the rest of us got out of the cars. "Wiliams, Bickle and Tanaka! Come with the case and look in the shop and see what you can see. Ganfield! Call the shop's owner and tell him what has happened. I will..."

I had run off to the shop to examin it with Bickle and Tanaka, as we hold the examining case, which hold emportant scientific tools. Although, that was for the science-policemen to do, we had to do some simple jobs. We looked for holes in the windows, a strange mark in the keyhole both in the front door or back door, and even a passage. But we couldn't find any strange things. Then I saw the other shops and remembered the Zewery Jewerly was supposed to be blocked out in brown curtains that came down when it closed from the roof. That wasn't able to remove unless you had the remote control to control it. And I was positive only the shop owner had it. But it was at the roof now. It was removed. However, there wasn't any sign a thief had broken in, unlike the other cases I've handled. I wondered if anything was stolen. But if not, why did the device ring? It did not ring because of the brown block-outs, as I call it. Some one must have broken into it. But there was no clue of it.

Soon the shop owner and some of the workers came. The shop owner was very nervous, desperate, and upset. "Sir," Lieutenant Windle spoke to him as he opened the door. "Would you and your workers check if all the jewels are all in their place? Because this could just be a little confusion of the little device. Nothing might have happened. There isn't any trace of a brake-in. So the owner, Mr. Maniaca and the workers checked on all the jewels. Everything seemed fine... except until Mr. Maniaca screamed. We all went to the room he was. He looked pale. We looked at what he was looking at. It was a big glass tank. And it was broken with all the pieces on the floor.
