The part which explained about the entropy changes was difficult to understand. I shook my head lightly to show Min Young that I could neither understand, and flipped that page away, revealing the next page of what seemed to be a report.
In the environment of the earth, Mineral D is known to exist in two forms in general-pollution, and crystal. When the mineral takes a form of pollution, the molecules exist individually, and sparsely among the molecules or atoms of other material. Researches till now claimed, when the pollution occurs on inorganic material, no damage would be done to it apart from lowering its purity percentage.
There was nothing wrong in the paragraph, but the same research also showed that things become different when the pollution occurs in one's brain.
In the crystallized state, more and various negative results can be caused. When molecules of Mineral D polluting the other material, organizes themselves and form a crystal, it is known that the structure of molecules break down.
The crystal is commonly found in a form of fine dust mixed with air, so many has been considering that pollution occurs in air can be an intermediate form between pollution and crystal.
Though, as explained, the 'crystallized' mineral D usually exists in a form of dusts, and can be destroyed easily, it is possible for them to huddle up to form a rock. If such 'solidification' really occurs, the imperishability of the chunk will rise steeply, and would be able to gather up more mass with more ease. For this reason, the parent meteorite had still existed as one-though it had been parted into four chunks, it didn't lose the main features it had when it was an asteroid.
"Well, I think it isn't some great thing."
I said-does it help our fight against Mineral D, just to name its features? I've noticed the change between pollution and crystals, but hadn't bothered to tell it to my father, as I perfectly knew that he, also, knew about it. I haven't imagined that my father, my father, would waste a page to name those features we all knew.
"Let's come back another time, if you really want to."
Minho said, rather hurriedly, to Min Young, who was looking at me in an accusing gaze-apparently she was thinking that I was only unable to understand it.
He was quite surprised to see a mere huddle of mechanics on a man, to maintain without much damages, when their weapon was a shock wave which convulsed the actual space. On the contrary, it had figured out how to give their attack back, making the battle trickier still.
Two shock waves shot out from both attackers, collided in the middle, and vibrated outward in a wave which shook the curtain of space more violently. He ducked, and tried to shield his head with his arms, as his spacecraft was flung back with a mighty force.
"Jang?"
His communication device buzzed with sudden voice and static, as it received a signal. He responded with something like a grunt.
"Is it all right with you?"
He sighed.
"Better steady your engine than ask me this."
"Not just that,"
The voice said, sounding a little surprised and offended.
"We can't overpower D, moreover free Choi from it in this way. The fight can last forever, giving it the least damages. I need your permission, Jang, as I'm to let out an order to arrange our spacecraft in formation C3."
"No!"
He refused curtly.
"There's a big possibility that we might lose it! Ask rejected."
"But Jang-"
He sighed.
"What if we carefully aim it in a direction to an object which exercises powerful gravity influence? I mean, if we succeed to throw it right into the gravity field-"
"If it goes wrong, if only a tiny flaw occurs, we'll lose not only D, but Choi."
Jang answered, practically growling.
"I am possible that our technology can overcome such possibility-I say, worrying about whether the aim is accurate enough, when there's already technology which can concentrate gravity waves into one spot, and blast it directly at the target!"
"The calculation would be more complex when added with all the interference, and the result would be less trustworthy."
"That won't be as much complex as you think, Jang, as one blast of a shock wave can be supposed as one wave, as the height, length and phase of various waves all matches."
Jang thought hard, only to notice that there wasn't anything left to say back to his coworker-he privately thought that he was certainly the last person who figured it out. The fight had, once again, been taking place violently from a moment which he didn't know when, and the rest of their troop was already far ahead.
"Ask accepted. Arrange them in order after considering for a while."
"Now do you really want me to read it?"
I was slightly irritated, to be honest. I personally thought that the document would be nothing more than his own way to show his personal anger to D, and told Min Young so, but she still wanted me to read it-whether for her or for me, I don't know.
"If you need much time, start now. That caretaker they left for us can come any moment."
Minho, who was standing in front of the doorway and looking out to the corridor beyond, half-whispered tensely. I sighed, and started. The report of my father had begun to tell a completely different tale. Like the first page, it started showing another figure-of the inner feature of the earth, this time.
-The circulation of rock in earth. (Based on Long-dated Inter-mantle Investigation Project, open to public) Another figure shows the circulation in the crust separately.
Beside the giant figure, I could see another picture showing a volcano, layers of different rocks, and arrow marks which connected all in a circle.
A research held separately on our team shows that convection current around the D-Chamber had been completely isolated from the current connecting the entire mass of inner earth, as it appears in Figure 1 (it was the first picture on the first page).
The isolation and concentration of convection current breaks down since after retrieving the Chunk D-5 from the area.
And he had presented a graph with a streak of line weaving up and down between horizontal lines-it seemed to shoot upward very abruptly after crossing a certain spot in the coordinate.
The similar aspect happens to show on a minor hydrothermal spring, firstly discovered at a rural village which first came into its influence.
There was another pair of illustration at the bottom of the page-both had same backdrops, and each had a different pattern of what looked like a tangle of thick, colorful wires.
The left figure shows the movement of the energy, and the right of the rock, at the place where an hydrothermal vent had unusually formed. In both figures, red color shows how they had been while D had polluted the place, and blue shows how it had become after the area had been unpolluted-which almost perfectly matches the original map of energy and rock flow. In contrast of energy movement in the first figure, we have discovered that the flow of energy had been unusually concentrated and drawn to one spot.
It didn't seem so to me, or it was just that I didn't know the difference between what is concentrated and what isn't.
On the left, you can notice that a minute circulation had formed-exactly on the spot where the inter-earth energy had been drawn to, and that it was soon gone after the pollution was gone.
And indeed there was. Though it was so small that it was hardly noticeable, I could see, in what ought to be an accumulating stratum, a sudden upward flow branching out and splitting into dozens of red-colored threads, and sinking down and joining the accumulation again. The blue wires formed nothing of that kind.
Our team had hold a survey of the ground below, and in the stratum, found a trace which suggested that there had been a young, local layer in the center, which was rich of Mineral D. We currently suspect that it had been the 'root' of the hydrothermal vent existed briefly.
Conclusion; judging by how the energy circulating had been unusually drawn to both volcanic activities, and that energy firstly mounts from deep down the earth even in the most similar cases, both activities seems to have been caused from the outside.
Still, I couldn't be sure of what he was saying. Judging by what he had been presenting throughout the entire report (if it could be called so), and particularly the latest 'conclusion', he was, for sure, saying that D had an ability to pull out energy from deep down the earth, but for the rest of it-
We were forced to leave the room as Minho tensely whispered that he heard a creak of a door downstairs, and strangely, I seemed to have become more longing to read it than Min Young.
