Hi, LFEW users? This is Katniss Irene. As you can see from the title, I'm making a debate club! I'm going to gather three members, so it would be four members total, including me. We will debate in letters, so if you are going to join our debate club, you should be capable of writing long letters explaining about your opinion and logic. Since there will be four members, we will debate in teams of two. For example, if the members are A,B,C and me, and the topic is 'Should corporal punishment be allowed at schools?', A and me would form a team explaining why corporal punishment SHOULD be allowed at schools, and B and C would form a team explaining why corporal punishment SHOULDN'T be allowed at schools. (This is just an example.) In this way, we would debate about a different topic every two weeks or so. It'll be so fun, and debating in English would help enhancing your English skills!
You can join if your age is twelve years or older, and like I explained before, you should be able to write long letters about the topic we're debating about AT LEAST once a week. The letter writing turn will be Me-> somebody in the other team-> somebody in my team-> somebody in the other team. Since I'm no good at explaining, this can all sound very confusing. So I'll give you an example:
Dear B's team,
Hi, this is Irene.
I think corporal punishment is essential in schools because it can set clear boundaries and motivate students to behave.
Dear Irene's team,
Hi, this is B.
Do you think corporal punishment is the ONLY way to make students behave theirselves?
Dear B's team,
Hi, this is A, and I'm on Irene's team.
Well, corporal punishment might not be the ONLY way, but it's a highly effective way. People can learn to associate pain with their wrong actions when they're inflicted corporal punishment.
Dear Irene's team,
Hi, this is C, and I'm on B's team.
What makes you think it's highly effective? Maybe telling them in a gentle way can make them behave and would have more influence on them. And besides, corporal punishment is no different from child abuse.
Like this. Get it? But the letters should be much, much longer than the examples. It should be at least twenty sentences. (It can sound long, but actually twenty sentences isn't very long.) Anyways, please join my debate club! We're starting on 4/15, so if you want to join, send me a letter until then. I'll gather members in a first-served basis. Bye!
