Self-driving cars have both advantages and disadvantages. As for advantages, self-driving cars can make people comfortable when they go somewhere with cars. If they travel by self-driving car they won''t need to drive. All they have to do is sit down and wait until the car brings them to their destination.
It will also allow the people who cannot drive to go somewhere more comfortably. Old people, disabled people, and children cannot drive. Therefore, people who can drive always had to take them here and there. Also, people who don't have a driving license couldn't drive so they couldn't go somewhere far easily. However, when self-driving cars become commonly used, all these people can go somewhere without other's help.
Plus, self-driving cars can maybe reduce car accidents. Many car accidents are happening because of the drowsy driving or drunken driving. If people use self-driving cars, people won't have to drive so these accidents will be all gone.
On the other hand, self-driving cars can be a disasters to some people. Because if the cars drive on its own all the drivers will lose their job. Also, it can be dangerous. Since the self-driving car is driven by AI, if something happens to it, the car will be out of control. And that will make many accidents.
It will be hard to decide who is responsible if something goes wrong. You cannot blame the people inside the car, because they couldn't do anything. And you cannot blame AI, because it is not its fault. There also can be some situation which AI cannot decide on its own. I cannot imagine what will happen if that situation appears.
I think self-driving cars are good because it makes people comfortable and reduce accidents. The safety problems will be settled later so it will be okay. Technology is developing every day and if self-driving car engineers work hard, they will find the way to solve all the problems. Laws will be made of course so the responsibility problem will be solved either. Then, self-driving cars will become commonly used and we can ride the comfortable car safety. I feel little sorry for the drivers who will lose their job though. But since new jobs will be created when the self-driving car appears, maybe the people can get the new job there.
