  •          Little men, after 5 years #The ruined trip and Emily's secret

Days passed by, but their friendships were not like the way it was before. Emily was still kind and talked to Daisy sometimes, but it was like 'What was the homework' or 'Can I lend your apron?'. Emily was somewhat cold than before. Daisy thought it was because the teacher praised Daisy instead of her. She was thinking of a way to apologize to Emily and be friends with her again. She was lonely. No friends to talk to. She was eating lunch on the bench in front of the bush. It was a sunny Sunday afternoon, no one around Daisy. Then, suddenly, Daisy jumped. "Yikes!" "Hey," A husky voice called, and Daisy felt someone tapping her shoulder.

A tall girl with curly brown hair and brown skin was looking down at her. "This is my seat." Daisy recognized her. Emma. Only African-American in her class. Daisy got out of the way. Emma picked up her bread and milk and begin to eat. Daisy stood and watched, not knowing what to do. "What are you looking for? It's okay if you sit there. Well, if you want." Emma shrugged and rolled her eyes. She pointed at the edge of the bench. Daisy thought it was a little rude of her to tell her what to do, even it is not her seat actually. But Daisy just went to the edge of the bench and dropped down. There was a long silence between these two. It was Emma who broke the silence. "You want some?" She handed Daisy a loaf of bread. "Thought you look hungry." Without even listening to Daisy's response, she went off.

                                                                                             ***

Meanwhile, the kids were having a nice time. Well, not really a nice time. "Oh no, where are all the foods Jo packed?" Hungry Demi cried out. "Jack ate it in the coach. No wonder!" Tommy groaned. "Great. No foods, no money.." Nat groaned. "Guys, cheer up! At least we don't have to sleep under the tree tonight." "Yeah, Dan. Only we will be kicked out in the hotel tomorrow because we have NO MONEY!" Nan said, sarcastically. "Nan's right. How could you forgot the money?" Nat mumbled. "It's not that, Nat. I DID packed the money. Only I thought it was. It was Tommy's pack of stones!" Everyone sighed. "Don't get too down. We can contact Jo if we go to the hotel right now!" "Good idea!" Everyone agreed and ran down the hill. There they were, in front of the telephone, in a shabby look. "Demi, remember the number?" "Of course!" Demi called out the number and there was a connecting 'beep' sound.

"It's working!" Everyone cheered in a hopeful tone. However, One call, two call, three calls..there was no answer.

"Hey there! You're there too long! Ma'am is waiting!" A man shouted. Just then, a woman answered. "Jo? Jo! Is this really you?" "I've never been so excited to hear her voice!" Nat cried out excitingly.

"Hi Jo, I'm Dan...yes...could you please get us some money and food?" "No Dan! Just tell her we want to go home right now!" Jack wispered furiously. "Oh, I mean, can you take us to home right now? What? You can't? Why?" Dan's face darkened. "Why? Why Dan? What's wrong?" Everyone wispered in despair. "It will take at least 7 days to reach us..There is no coach for Florida!" Suddenly, "Kids! Get out of the way! Move!" The man pushed the kids roughly and handed the telephone over to the grandma next them. "Hey! We're urgent!" Tommy shouted. "It's none of my business. Why are some trouble maker children here? It's not a place for some rats like you to come!" "We're not trouble makers and we're not children anymore! Dan is 20 and Nan is..." "I'm sorry, sir. Tommy, let's go!" Dan took them out of the telephone booth. "I'm very sorry ma'am" Dan called out. "What was that for??" The boys shouted at Dan. "Well, it's our fault. She was waiting." "Yeah, he's right. We shouldn't have stayed there that long. What if the grandma was urgent like us?" Nan remarked. "Yeah, yeah. Why are you always taking his side? What, you guys are dating?" Tommy gave a displeased look at those two. "Or pretending to be mature? Just because you are a little older than us?" "What? That's not true, you know it's not!" Nan glared back, her face turning red. "I'm hungry..." Jack mumbled. Everyone's tummy started to grumble. "Let's find a place to eat." They went downstairs. A smell of delicious chocolate cake came. But when they reached the place where looked like a restaurant, no one was there. "Hello? Is anyone there?" Everyone shouted. A woman with an apron came out. "I'm sorry kids. The restaurant closes at 8:30." Demi checked his watch. The hand of the clock is almost pointing 9 o' clock. "Oh..okay.." Dan started to leave. "Wait kids!" A woman came running.

She was very big, but she had a kind smile. Kind, generous smile, that is.  She handed each kids some food."Here are some leftovers. Sorry we only have those..You must be very hungry.." The woman casted a kind smile to them. "Thank you, ma'am. Thank you very much." They thanked the woman and went back to their rooms. Two chocolate cakes, four apple pies, three puddings, a chicken leg, and some milk. It's all they have. It's far insufficient to feed hungry 6 kids, but they are satisfied. "It's much better than I used to be. Me and Dan used to eat none for a week!" Nat said. Dan agreed. They took a bite at the chocolate cake. "Mmm! It tastes good!" Jack grinned. Everyone was fascinated at the taste of the food. "It's like Daisy would used to make for us.." Demi said. "I wonder how Daisy's doing.." Nan said. "She's doing fine. I sent a letter to her last week." Dan said. "What? You've sent a letter to her?" "Oh, why Nan? Are you jealous?" Tommy giggled. "No, I'm not! Ugh.." Nan glared at the boys. The boys giggled, but Dan. "Now, now, everyone, take a shower and go to your room." "Room? Where?" Nat said. "We have three rooms. Decide where to go." Dan said. "I'm with Tommy!" Jack announced. "Nat, Let's be roommates!" Demi said. "Yes, Dan, you are with Nan. That's what you were hoping for~" Tommy poked Dan mischievously. "Yes Dan, congrats!" Even Demi teased Dan. "Shut up! Well, I don't want to share a room with her!" Dan remarked. Dan was like, "Oh, my" Because he knew it would upset Nan with high pride. "Fine! I don't want to sleep with you boys either. I'm going to sleep alone." She marched to the second room. "Well, we're good." The boys giggled. "Only Dan will feel upset.." Jack wispered.

Dan glared at them. "I'm sorry Dan, I was just teasing~" Demi and Nat apologized. "Let's sleep with us." They drifted off to sleep because they were so tired. Only Nan stood awake. She had a secret which she told no one. She was afraid of the dark. Sleeping alone.

Next day, they were out of the hotel. Dan asked, "Did you guys have a nighty-night?" Nan stayed all night, but she couldn't tell the boys her secret. "So, what should we do now?" Demi asked. "Oh, I have an idea!"  Someone announced.

                                                                                          ***

Everyday, Daisy saw the girl with curly brown hair again and again. One day, the girl, Emma, let Daisy sit next to her.

Out of the blue, she said, "Did you know I was sisters with her?" "Huh? Who?" Daisy asked. "Emily, I mean."

"Emily?? You are sisters with Emily?" "Yeah. Guess you are wondering why we have different hair." She giggled. "We have different mothers." "Aha.." Daisy nodded. "But aren't you close to her?" Emma gave her a sarcastic look. "Of course not. We're enemies. She thinks I stole her dad." Daisy thought, maybe it was not teacher's compliment she was mad at..she is envying my peaceful family!

    Dear my friends

Before I finish this novel, I want to make a quick note to my club members. Dear my friends, I really like your novels! I think your novels are better than mine. My exam results are not so good TㅡT The average is only 96..and I'm very tired cuz I just went on a vacation..to Jeju! I don't know why I'm tired after vacation. After all, vacation is for rest and play! Oh, another bad news..my middle finger is fractured..TㅡTT I got it from while practicing for basketball Performance assessment. But guess what, I scored 6 goals within 30 seconds with only one hand! It is almost the best score in my classroom. All the girls scored only 3~4 goals with two hands kk I was very proud of myself. But I didn't get an A because the cut-off point is 8 goals. One girl in my classroom only got an A. I think the cut-off line iis little harsh. Oh, sorry for talking too much. Bye~
