  • After Isla made her sudden announcement, utter silence followed. Maeve wasn't wearing much surprise on her face, just a faint trace of sadness she had seen earlier. Lizzie was already on her foot, a dazed ex-pression turning into fury and confusion. Isla couldn't meet any of their gazes, since herself couldn't understand how she could make that decision, if it meant leaving her parents and Green. And herself. Not myself, she told herself fiercely. I'm still me.

"What do you think, Lizzie?" Maeve gently turned her head toward Lizzie, who looked startled as the Determiner of Destinies addressed her name. Maybe she thought it was the last time she could be ever called that name again. Isla felt some pity for the girl now, but she couldn't help feeling sorry for herself too. Her life was ruined now- either decisions wouldn't make her life as it had been before this startling announcement by Maeve.

Suddenly, Maeve stood up from the wooden bench and glanced at the two girls. Then she spoke up. "Well, I don't want to interfere with something that can change your lives forever-and maybe more-, but as the Determiner of Destinies, kids, I prefer things to go into order again, as Isla just mentioned. It's their right places; it's not right for you to live each other's lives. Would you like that? Losing your very own life?" Maeve pressed, now staring intently at Lizzie.

She frowned with a flicker of betrayal that Maeve would suggest that, but slowly she nodded. "Yes, that sounds okay. Living my own life." Isla almost rolled her eyes in front of Lizzie: so the idea appealed to her because she wanted her own life? Wasn't she thinking about their lives after the change? She'd be Isla, but she was forgetting that important fact!

Then she looked away. Some more silence squeezed the three girls standing in front of the wooden bench in the peaceful, small park, before Maeve finally shrugged and waved her hand. "Well, then, it's decided! We'd better head toward the Destiny Factory, that's where every single destinies are generated from, including yours. I will explain the details later."

Both Isla and Lizzie stood there with Maeve stepping away from them, because their senses were immensely dulled due to everything that had happened that night. After they recognized they were nice heading toward the Destiny Factory, they hurried after Maeve and tailed alongside her, trying hard not to bump into each other.

"We're going there on foot?" Lizzie asked, out of breath. The blonde-haired woman glanced at the younger girl. "Of course. It's just over there." When Isla looked the place where Maeve's finger was pointing, she noticed a huge yellow factory(although it was a factory, as Maeve called it, it was more like a clean building) standing on the lawns of the Fresh Park, where it was usually empty. She'd never seen a factory there before. She was pretty sure Lizzie was confused too, but they both thought it was nothing compared to two destinies switched.

The three swiftly entered the clear glass doors and faced a large hall full of desks and people. Everything was so clean and organized, making Isla let a low moan of appreciation. Right left to their side, was a white long desk with a boy about Isla's age sitting on a black chair. Maeve muttered something, and the boy nodded as he scribbled something on a piece of paper. Maeve took the two girls-Isla and Lizzie silent from awe- toward a glass elevator and elevated up to the third floor.

There, as they slowly stepped toward the third floor, they opened another door and found a large office with marble desk and floor. Everything was neat, but no one was to be seen. Isla was peering here and there for a sign of a person, when, suddenly a deep voice boomed behind them.

"What are you doing here?" An old man with a friendly ex-pression was standing right behind them, looking curious. Maeve respectfully dipped her head and handed him the note she had received from the boy on the first floor.

"Oh," The man nodded with a look of sympathy toward the two girls standing awkwardly in front of him. Isla knew he was a nice old man, and he wouldn't do anything bad, but she still felt herself shrinking under his gaze.

"Hello." He smiled, shaking hands with Lizzie(whose eyes widened with fear) and reached out for Isla's. "I am Detriet Bobson, and I'm the top manager of Destiny Factory!"

     The three people swiftly entered
