Lucy, the Future Space Girl
#1 LUCY'S SECRET
"Class, I want all of you to open your math textbooks, please," announced Mrs. Brian to the whole class.
"Ugh," Stacy remarked. "Why do we have to memorize all these math formulas?"
Lucy peered into her eighth-grade math textbook. She was a new student in Central Middle School, and she had no friends whom she could talk to.
"Hey, new girl," Stacy whispered to Lucy when she caught sight of her peering through the book. "Don't be too hard on yourself: Mrs. Brian loves to solve math problems. You'll have to get used to it,"
"Actually," Lucy said uncertainly. "I already learned these formulas when I was in-well, another town."
"Really? You already learned all these stuffs?"
"Yup,"
Lucy looked down, trying to avoid answering Stacy's questions.
"......And that's why X equals to -23. Understood?"
Mrs. Brian explained the problem looking as if everyone in the classroom understood her explanation.
"Where are you from anyway?" Stacy nudged Lucy again when Mrs. Brian was busy explaining the formula.
"I already told the whole class on my first day," Lucy said, trying to sound annoyed. "I'm from California, as you can see."
"Well, I think there's something different about you," Stacy stared at her. "I don't know why, but you just-uh-feel different."
Lucy winced. She didn't want Stacy to know her secret-and she wasn't going to let that happen.
"Miss Lucy! Miss Stacy!" Mrs. Brian called out before Lucy could defend herself. "Please pay attention. This formula is the most important thing in our new math book!"
"Oops. Sorry Mrs. Brian," Stacy quickly apologized.
Lucy sighed with relief. Mrs. Brian had saved her. After all, Lucy had an enormous secret which she thought nobody would believe...
