Henry Ford
Do you know about Henry Ford? Well, I’ve only heard the name many
times, but I didn’t know exactly about him. So today, I will tell you
about Henry Ford.
Henry Ford was born in 1863 on his family’s farm in Dearborn,
Michigan. Ford showed more interest in machanics than farming.
Later, he was emplayed by both Westinghouse
and the Edison illuminating.
His first company went dankrupt in 1899, and investors forced him
out of his second company in 1901. But at last, the ford motor
company was formed in 1903. Whithin ten years, it was one of the
dominant players in the early American auto industry.
The things that made him successful was inventing ‘moving assembly
line’. ‘Move the work, not the workers’, like he had said.
For example, one worker would install the steering and other workers
would install only the cars’ doors. And another worker would
install just the door. The moving assembly line was a huge success.
But he had not only the good things; he also had some problems to
be solved.
Like the same task everyday, and a low satisfaction.
Ford found a solution: he reduced working hours: working five days a
week and reduced to eight hours. Some people say that Ford had
invented the weekend!
Ford’s biggest success was the Model T, which was sold at the
lowest possible price.
Today, manufacturers work together to supply needed parts just in
time so that manufacturers do not need to warehouse a great
number of parts.
With the help of computers and robots, people are doing custom
manufacturing.
People are still using the assembly line, so if Henry Ford is alive, he
would recognize the assembly line was his invention.
