Chapter 2

The next day, Jaypaw woke up in his nest.

‘Would Flosskit be awoken?’ Jaypaw wondered. He was thinking about Flosskit all the time. Begining from waking up from his nest, and until he falls asleep. He knew he should not love Flosskit; he was a medicine cat apprentice. He is going to become a medicine cat soon. Loving Flosskit will make him lose his career, and if it gets worse, it might block Flosskit’s path too. Jaypaw sighed.

‘I am going to break the code if I have to. I just really want Flosskit.’ Jaypaw made up his mind. Then, Tansyshine called at him.

“Jaypaw, please go pick some borage for the queens!”

“Of course! I’ll be back in a flash!” Jaypaw said, and raced outside the den. He saw the kits marching out of the nursery. Flosskit was waddling after Dandelionkit, and she tripped over her own feet and fell into Dandleionkit’s back.

“Be careful!” Dandelionkit mewed. Flosskit nodded.

Jaypaw purred. Flosskit was so cute! Then he saw Leafkit staring him with a strange look. She was looking at him as if she is going to spit up soon. And then she turned away and the kits began marching again.

‘What was that?’ Jaypaw thought. He knew that Leafkit knew something, but he didn’t know what she knew, or what she was thinking about. He shook his head, as if trying not to think about it, and raced toward the forest to gather up some borage. He found the plant with the blueish-purple flower, like his eyes. He picked those plants, and raced back toward camp. He raced toward the medicine den.

“I’m back with borage!” Jaypaw mewed, racing into the medicine den.

“Who is borage?” Jaypaw heard a familiar voice inside the den.

“Flosskit!” Jaypaw exclaimed.

“Borage is a type of plant. It’s good for fever, and can also make a queen’s milk come out well.”He replied.

“Wow! Then I can use it when I be a medicine cat!” Flosskit mewed.

“You are going to be a medicine cat?” Jaypaw asked.

“Of course! I am going to be the best medicine cat in the forest! I’m beginning training today!” Flosskit mewed.

“That’s great! But you are not an apprentice yet...!” Jaypaw mewed.

“I am going to think more while training. So it will be fine.” Flosskit mewed. She raced to the back of the medicine den, toward Tansyshine. Jaypaw followed. Tansyshine saw Jaypaw, and smiled.

“Jaypaw, take the borage to the nursery. give them to the nursing queens.” He mewed. Jaypaw nodded, and raced out of the medicine den and into the nursery.

Flosskit was in the medicine den, learning about the herbs in the den.

“These are called catmint,” Tansyshine explained, holding up the plant.

“They cure Whitecough, and especially Greencough.”

“What is a Greencough and Whitecough?” Flosskit asked.

“It’s a very bad disease that makes you sick.” Tansyshine replied.

Flosspaw learnd about more herbs and wondered around the den. And she asked Tansyshine,

“So I can be a medicine cat apprentice?”

Tansyshine nodded, and said,

“When it is time, you can.”

Leafkit and Stonekit were hanging out in the nursery. Dandelionkit was fast asleep, and Flosskit was in the medicine den. They were sure that she would become a medicine cat.

The queens had all went for a walk together. They said they’ll be back right before sundown, and there was plenty of time left. They got tired of playing moss ball, or playing hunter and prey. They had already eaten lunch a long time ago too. Then, Leafkit got an idea.

“Hey Stonekit! Let’s sneak outside camp!”
