Owner of a choice
What would be a better choice when your parents choose, or you choose? It has been widely debated whether parents' choices are better than those made by their children. Of course, the opposite would say that parents have more experience than children. It might be true that adults' decisions are better than children's. However, my experience suggests that it is important for children to make decisions for two reasons: they are not yet effective, and they have different social systems.
First of all, parents' choices might not be effective for children. Because of a person's psychology, people do not want to do what others order them to do. This includes children, too. They do not like to do what their parents say. Besides, only following parents' choices can make children hate to do what they say. For me, my parents wanted me to study to enter a renowned university; however, I wanted to major in music. As my parents stopped me from doing music and made me study, I got depressed and did not want to do anything. Because of this, my grades were low, and made my parents allow me to do music. Surprisingly, I studied hard for entering Arts high school, and my grades were the highest in my middle school period. It illustrates that parents' choices are not always the best for the children.
Second, children can know about their futures better than their parents. Parents and their children, the term of their age is usually about 30 years. It means that the social and the entrance examination system have changed a lot. And to children, they can listen to teachers, seniors. Also, students these days are experts with the internet. Children are fast learners, and they find the information that they need for. There's an example for this. I have a friend who wants to major in art. Her grades and the section did not allow her to enter Arts High School. Her parents wanted her to go to a regular high school. However, my friend knew that she could not learn what she needed in that school. Because of that, she entered in Vocational school. It was because the school allowed her to learn what she wanted to. It means that children can find out what they need and can make decisions for them.
To conclude, it would be nice for parents to suggest their children about things however, the owner of the choice should be the children's, with the reasons: it might be useless for children, and children might be better off learning information. Parents should not make their children dislike doing what parents want, but help them with their future. As the responsibility goes to the children, it is sure that children should make their own decisions.
