This was also made it into a movie in 1956.
The story
The story is based on a real incident, but only the two main characters, Anna and the King of Siam. Some of the chracters are just in for entertain. Oh, and what is Siam? It's the ancient name of Thailand. As our name was Joeson by that time.^^ Anna is a England lady. However, even though her parents were England, she wasn't born from there. King of Siam always thougt scientifically and logically. At that times, the Western were going to make Asia their colonies but Thailand was the only land that wasn't a colony. How come? The king decided to take the Western cultures and inventions even though he hates them. So that's why he invited a professor in England, named Mrs. Anna. Anna thought the kings's child and the king many things and how the world went. The half of the story is all about this. And one day, a girl called Tubtim was brought to the King to marry with him. In there, the king and many, many wives and Tubtim was brought even she didn't love him.... Soon, Anna discovered that Tubtim was loving with another man and she helped her. One day, the king discovered that so Tubtim was about to get beat her and just them Anna got very furious about the King being a barbrarian. So she decided to leave Thailand. Just one day, one of the King's wife went to Anna and said that the King is about to die. Anna went up to him and cried in her tears as the King died. His son followed the throne and he made many changes in Thailand.
My thoughts
At first, Anna thought that the Kings was a un-mannerd, rude person but as she lived with him, she discovered that he also had a warm and a kind heard and also funny. Through this book, Anna have many troubles with the king, but she knew the king's unknown warm heart and the loving of his people. Also, she feels that he was a sagacious and a true friend....Lovely and cute children, clumsy but kind wives, and sold by a servant Tubtim and Lunta's love story etc. Living in a new environment with Anna's loving and sweet songs, you are gonna feel it too. In addition, in this book, there are lots of songs in it and I guess that was because it was a musical in the first place.
