It's because Bishop Myriel new about the way to make people kind. She helped lots of poor, and Valjean actually was a poor. I think that Myriel new that helping with kind mind will make other people, even a convict kind. Also, she wasn't afraid about dying. I think she would thing self to servant of god. She was Bishop!
