"What happened here?" Wukong asked the gibbon.
A few more monkeys and apes gathered around Sun Wukong and the gibbon. They looked scared.
"여기 무슨 일이 있었지?" 오공이 유인원에게 물었다.
원숭이들과 유인원들 몇이 더 손오공과 그 유인원의 주위에 모여들었다. 그들은 겁에 질린 것 같았다.
"A demon attacked us," said the gibbon. "We tried to fight him, but he was too powerful. He stole most of our things and kidnapped many of us."
Wukong was furious. "Who is he? Where does he live?"
"He is called the Demon of Chaos," said the gibbon. "He came from the north."
"어떤 마왕이 우리를 공격했어요." 유인원이 말했다. "우린 그놈과 싸우려고 했지만 그놈은 너무 강했습니다. 그는 우리 물건을 거의 다 훔쳐가고 우리들 가운데 많은 수를 납치했습니다."
오공은 몹시 화를 냈다. "그놈이 누구냐? 어디 사는 놈이냐?"
"그는 혼세마왕이라고 불립니다." 유인원이 말했다. "그는 북쪽에서 왔습니다."
"Wait here," Wukong ordered. "I will handle the demon."
"The demon is very powerful," the gibbon warned.
"I learned many things from a sage," Wukong replied. "I am now as powerful as a god! I'm not afraid of any demon. I'll be back soon."
"여기서 기다려라." 오공이 명령했다. "내가 그 마왕을 처리하겠다."
"그 마왕은 아주 강합니다." 유인원이 경고했다.
"나는 현자로부터 많은 것들을 배웠다." 오공이 대답했다. "나는 이제 신과 같이 강하다! 나는 마왕이 두렵지 않다. 곧 돌아오겠다."
He leaped into the air and flew north.
His subjects stared in amazement.
"Our king can fly!" said the gibbon.
Wukong soon spotted a gloomy mountain. Dark clouds hung over it.
그는 공중으로 뛰어올라 북쪽으로 날아갔다.
백성들은 놀라서 쳐다보았다.
"우리의 왕은 날 수가 있다!" 유인원이 말했다.
오공은 곧 음울하게 보이는 산을 발견했다. 어두운 구름이 산 위에 걸려 있었다.
"That looks like a demon's home," he thought.
Wukong landed on the mountain and found a cave. Two guards stood at the entrance, practicing sword fighting.
"I'm king of the Fruit and Flower Mountain!" yelled Wukong. "The Demon of Chaos attacked my subjects! I want revenge!"
"저건 마왕의 집처럼 보이는군." 그는 생각했다.
오공은 산에 내려앉았고, 동굴을 하나 발견했다. 두 명의 보초들이 입구에 서서 칼싸움을 연습하고 있었다.
"나는 화과산의 왕이다!" 오공이 소리쳤다. "혼세마왕이 나의 백성들을 공격했다! 난 복수를 원한다!"
"Ahh!" the guards shrieked, and ran into the cave.
The Demon of Chaos was sitting at a table, eating a meal.
"Disaster!" one guard cried.
"What sort of disaster?" asked the demon.
"아악!" 보초들은 소리를 지르고는, 동굴 안으로 뛰어들어갔다.
혼세마왕은 식탁에 앉아서 식사를 하고 있었다.
"난리가 났습니다!" 한 보초가 소리쳤다.
"무슨 난리냐?" 마왕이 물었다.
"There's a monkey outside," said the other guard. "He said he's king of the Fruit and Flower Mountain. You attacked his subjects. Now he wants revenge!"
"The monkeys and apes have spoken of a king," said the demon. "He left to find a sage. I guess he returned."
"바깥에 원숭이 하나가 있습니다." 다른 보초가 말했다. "그는 자기가 화과산의 왕이라고 말했습니다. 마왕님이 그의 백성들을 공격했습니다. 지금 그는 복수를 원합니다!"
"그 원숭이들과 유인원들이 왕에 대해 말했지." 마왕이 말했다. "그는 현자를 찾으러 갔다고 했는데. 그가 돌아온 모양이군."
The demon stood up. "Does the monkey have any weapons?"
"No," said one guard.
"Then get me my armor and my sword," said the demon.
A moment later the Demon of Chaos walked outside. He looked at Wukong and laughed. "You're just a little monkey!" he said.
마왕은 일어섰다. "그 원숭이가 무기를 가졌더냐?"
"아닙니다." 한 보초가 말했다.
"그렇다면 내 갑옷과 검을 가져오너라." 마왕이 말했다.
잠시 후 혼세마왕이 밖으로 걸어나갔다. 그는 오공을 보고는 웃음을 터뜨렸다. "넌 그저 작은 원숭이가 아니냐!" 그가 말했다.
Wukong looked up at the huge demon. "I am small," he said, "but I am more powerful than you can imagine."
"I'm not afraid of you!" said the demon. He swung his sword.
Wukong jumped out of the way and then flew at the demon.
Pow! Wukong hit the demon on the nose.
"Argh!" cried the demon.
오공은 거대한 마왕을 올려다보았다. "난 작다." 오공이 말했다. "하지만 나는 네가 상상할 수 없을 만큼 강하다."
"난 네가 두렵지 않아!" 마왕이 말했다. 그는 검을 휘둘렀다.
오공은 펄쩍 뛰어 비키고는 마왕에게 날아갔다.
뻥! 오공은 마왕의 코를 쳤다.
"악!" 마왕이 소리쳤다.
Wukong pulled out a handful of his own hair and blew on it.
Poof! Each strand of hair turned into a fake monkey—exactly like Wukong. All at once the fake monkeys attacked the demon, punching and kicking him.
오공은 자기 머리카락을 한 줌 뽑아서는 훅 하고 불었다.
펑! 머리카락은 각각 가짜 원숭이로 변했다. 오공과 완전히 똑같았다. 가짜 원숭이들은 모두 한꺼번에 마왕을 주먹으로 치고 발로 차며 공격했다.
"What . . . What's going on?" cried the demon, trying to fight all the fake monkeys.
"It's a magic spell," said Wukong. "It's called Body Beyond the Body."
The Demon of Chaos was soon destroyed.
"어…… 어떻게 된 일이야?" 마왕은 이렇게 소리치며 가짜 원숭이들 모두와 싸우려고 애썼다.
"마법이다." 오공이 말했다. "신외신(몸 밖의 몸)이라고 부르는 것이다."
혼세마왕은 곧 완전히 패했다.
Wukong chased away the guards and then went into the cave. He found all the monkeys and apes that the demon had kidnapped. When they saw him, they cheered.
"Your Majesty!" cried the monkeys and apes. "You came back!"
Wukong smiled. "I will take you home!"
오공은 보초들을 쫓아버리고 동굴 속으로 들어갔다. 그는 마왕이 납치한 원숭이들과 유인원들을 모두 찾았다. 그들은 오공을 보자 환호했다.
"폐하!" 원숭이들과 유인원들이 외쳤다. "돌아오셨군요!"
오공은 미소를 지었다. "내가 너희들을 집으로 데려가겠다!"
The next morning Wukong woke up early.
"Other demons might attack us," he thought. "We must be ready to protect ourselves."
Wukong spent the day teaching his subjects how to fight. They practiced with swords and spears.
다음 날 아침 오공은 일찍 일어났다.
"다른 마왕들이 우리를 공격할지도 몰라." 그는 생각했다. "우리는 스스로를 보호할 준비가 되어 있어야 해."
오공은 그날 하루를 백성들에게 싸우는 법을 가르치면서 보냈다. 그들은 칼과 창을 가지고 연습했다.
Before long, the monkeys and apes were a fierce army.
"No demon will dare bother us now," said the gibbon.
"No," said Wukong. "There's just one problem though."
"What's that?" asked the gibbon.
"I can't use any of the weapons we have!" said Wukong.
