A strong shock wave of magic energy knocked Zann upward. He felt himself bump against the stalactite and slam against the cave's ceiling. "Ow!" He grunted.
He twisted around and hugged the stalactite. His hand found a deep crack to hold onto, and he settled his feet on a small bump near the bottom of the stalactite. Feeling secure, he sighed with relief. Then he untied the rope.

"Careful, boy!" Wyssa called up to him.
Zann lowered the rope to Wyssa.
She grabbed it, gave it a tug, and yelled, "I'm ready!"
The nomads yanked the rope, and Wyssa was lifted off the boulder. She swung over the cave hissers, kicking furiously as claws snapped at her feet. Up and up she went until she reached the top. Two nomads pulled her to safety.

젠은 밧줄을 위사에게 내려주었다.
위사는 밧줄을 움켜잡았고, 한 번 확 잡아당겨보고는 소리쳤다. "나는 준비됐다."

Next a nomad threw the rope back to Zann. He caught it with one hand while still gripping the stalactite with the other.
Zann breathed deeply. He let go of the stalactite and quickly grasped the rope with both hands. Immediately he swung downward. He used his feet to brace himself as he slammed into the wall.
"Oof!" he cried. Soon he felt himself being raised up and out of the pit.

"Wow!" Perda exclaimed as a nomad helped Zann onto the ledge. "I can't believe that worked."
"Your bravery is inspiring, young man, " the nomad said.
"Yes, well . . ." Wyssa brushed off her clothes and shot Zann a grumpy look. "I suppose you did save my hide, boy. It's about time you repaid me for all the times I've saved yours."
"You're welcome." Zann grinned. But then his grin faded. "What happened to Gliss?"

"천만에요." 젠은 활짝 웃었다. 그러나 순간 그의 미소가 사라졌다. "글리스는 어떻게 된 거예요?"
Wyssa glanced around. "I assumed she was with you."
"The others are still searching, " a nomad said. "We should join them."
"I can help." Wyssa pulled a handful of purple berries from her pocket.
"Are those oogberries?" Zann asked.
Wyssa didn't answer. She crushed the berries and then rubbed them onto her fingers. "This way," she said, exiting the cave.

"What are you doing? " one of the nomads asked. "Is that magic from another world?"
"Yes. It senses magical sources." Wyssa headed toward one of the hoof beasts. "Someone help me mount this creature, and I'll lead the way."
Soon they were all riding across the desert. Wyssa was in the lead, occasionally changing direction slightly.
"Are you sure you're following the right energy?" a nomad asked. He sounded nervous.

"맞는 에너지를 따라가고 있는 게 확실합니까?" 한 유목민이 물었다. 그는 불안한 것 같았다.
When Zann looked around, all the nomads looked rather grim.
"What's the matter?" Perda asked.
The nomads exchanged a look. "We're heading toward the Seeing Stone," one said. "That's where Morb was last seen."
Zann looked at Wyssa. "Do you think your spell is leading us toward Morb instead of Gliss?"
젠은 주변을 둘러보았고, 모든 유목민들은 다소 암울한 표정이었다.
"무슨 일이에요?" 펄다가 물었다.
유목민들은 서로 시선을 교환했다. "우리는 '전망 바위’를 향해 가고 있어." 한 사람이 말했다. "모브가 마지막으로 목격된 곳이 거기지."
젠은 위사를 쳐다보았다. "마법이 우리를 글리스 대신에 모브에게 안내하고 있다고 생각하세요?"
"It's possible," Wyssa said. "But we need to be sure. Unless you wish to abandon your friend out of fear?"
"Of course not," Zann said.
One nomad soon called for a halt. "We're definitely nearing the Seeing Stone, " he whispered. "We should proceed with caution."
Everyone dismounted the hoof beasts and tiptoed past some outcropping.

모두들 발굽 야수에서 내려, 땅 위로 노출된 암석을 지나 살금살금 걸어갔다.
Zann spotted the Seeing Stone immediately. It was a huge stone plateau with gently slopping sides and a flat, wide top. No wonder the nomads used it to view long distances.
But he wasn't really thinking about that. He was focused on the ugly contraption standing in the middle.
"Look!" Perda whispered. "It's one of Morb's contraptions!"
젠은 전망 바위를 즉시 발견했다. 측면은 완만하게 경사지고, 꼭대기는 평평하고 넓은 거대한 돌 고원이었다. 유목민들이 멀리 보기 위해 그것을 사용할 만도 했다.

Zann nodded. The contraption was an awkward jumble of bones, stones, and other things Zann couldn't recognize from this distance. It was smaller than some of the villain's previous contraptions, but it looked just as evil.
"I don't see the girl," Wyssa murmured. "The spell locked onto the magic energy coming from Morb's contraption."
젠은 고개를 끄덕였다. 그 기구는 뼈와 돌, 그리고 젠이 이렇게 멀리서는 알아볼 수 없는 다른 것들이 뒤죽박죽 뒤섞여 있었다. 그것은 이 악당의 예전 기구들보다 작았지만 사악하게 보이기는 마찬가지였다.

"So how will we find Gliss?" Darb said.
"We'll have to move away from here and try again," Perda said. "Maybe once we're away from that thing—"
"We're not going anywhere yet," Wyssa said. "We must destroy it before Morb returns to finish it."
"How can you tell it's not finished yet?" Zann glanced at the contraption again. "Is it because it's smaller than the other ones?"

"That, and other reasons." Wyssa stepped forward. "Come with me. We're going to need a lot of friction."
"But what about Gliss?" Darb said.
"We'll continue looking for Gliss soon," Wyssa said. "First we must stop Morb."
"But—," Perda began. Wyssa was already walking away.
Zann and his friends traded a glance. "I don't think we have a choice right now," Zann said.

"하지만 글리스는 어쩌고요?" 다브가 말했다.

젠과 그의 친구들은 눈길을 주고받았다. "지금 우리에겐 선택의 여지가 없는 거 같아." 젠이 말했다.
They all hurried after Wyssa. Zann, Perda, and the nomads rubbed their hands together to create magic friction. Finally Zann felt their energy sparking and buzzing around them.
Meanwhile Wyssa had climbed atop the plateau. "Send it to me!" she called, rubbing her hands together.
They sent all the energy up toward her. She held out her arms, and when the energy reached her, it burst into an enormous fireball.
"Wow," Perda said.
그들 모두는 서둘러 위사를 따라갔다. 젠과 펄다, 그리고 유목민들은 마법의 마찰을 만들어내기 위해 손을 문질렀다. 마침내 젠은 그들의 에너지가 주위에서 불꽃을 일으키며 윙윙거리는 것을 느꼈다.
한편 위사는 고원 꼭대기로 올라가 있었다. "나한테 보내세요!" 위사는 손을 마주 비비며 소리쳤다.
그들은 위사를 향해 모든 에너지를 올려 보냈다. 위사는 양쪽 팔을 내밀었고, 에너지는 위사에게 닿자 폭발하면서 커다란 불덩어리가 되었다.
"와." 펄다가 말했다.
Wyssa lifted the fireball and turned toward the contraption. Zann held his breath.
But then the old woman glanced down. Giant beetles were swarming toward her.
"Darb, what are those things?" Zann asked.
"I don't recognize them," Darb said. "They don't look very aggressive though."
The beetles marched in tidy lines, clicking their antennae in time to their steps.
위사는 그 불덩어리를 쳐들고 기구를 향해 돌아섰다. 젠은 숨을 죽였다.
그런데 그때 그 노파는 힐끗 아래를 내려다보았다. 거대한 딱정벌레들이 떼지어 위사에게 몰려오고 있었다.
"다브, 저것들은 뭐니?" 젠이 물었다.
"뭔지 모르겠어." 다브가 말했다. "그런데 그렇게 공격적이지는 않은 것 같아."
딱정벌레들은 줄을 잘 맞추어 행진했고, 발걸음에 맞춰 더듬이로 딸깍거리는 소리를 냈다.
Zann glanced at Wyssa, who was still gaping at the beetles. The fireball was beginning to fizzle out.
"Quick!" Zann cried. "We have to send more energy up to Wyssa!" He and the others furiously rubbed their hands together again. But before they could get enough energy sparking, the fireball had disappeared.
A second later Wyssa snapped her fingers and zapped out of sight.
젠은 위사를 흘낏 쳐다보았고, 위사는 여전히 입을 벌리고 딱정벌레들을 쳐다보고 있었다. 불덩어리는 쉬익쉬익 하는 소리를 내며 사그라들고 있었다.
"어서!" 젠이 소리쳤다. "우리가 위사에게 에너지를 더 보내야 해요!" 그와 다른 사람들은 맹렬히 다시 손을 문질렀다. 그러나 충분한 에너지가 불꽃을 일으키게 만들기 전에 불덩어리는 사라져 버렸다.
