"Boo!" Rosemary McGreen, so called Rose exclaimed. "Hey! Don't ever scare me like that!" Elysia said. "You nearly gave me a heart attack!" "People don't get heart attacks so easily." Rose said. "But that doesn't mean I can't get one!" Elysia barked. "You know, there's always an exception!"
"Girls, can you be quiet for a second? I'm reading here," Kara said. "If you're going to argue, argue in another place." "Kara, you know what mommy said. She said to be a good girl and NOT boss us around." Rose said. "Yeah. You're my twin, but sometimes, I can't understand you dear sis," Kassia agreed with a nod. Kara scowled. "So what? You want me to a fairy or something? I can't stand this childish stuff. Talking about it, I'm going to my room!" she said as she picked up her book and stomped up the stairs.
"Whoa, Kara seems really mad at me and you." Rose whispered under her breath. "It's kind of hard to have many sisters."
The McGreens was a big family, consisting of 7 girls, 2 boys, and 4 adults. Because they had so much kids, Mrs. McGreen and Mr. McGreen had a hard time remembering everyone's name. So they made a list:
Seamus/18, Kara/16, Kassia/16, Lily Dynn/15, Adonis/13, Adora/13, Alice/11, Elysia/9, and Rosemary/8
The McGreen's all loved their children, but mother and father were always busy with their work, so the children were usually by themselves in the big house. The house had a kitchen, 7 bathrooms, but they were always full when it was time for school, 2 livingrooms, 13 bedrooms, 4 guest rooms, a library, 5 porches, and an attic. This house was so big that you might get lost if you didn't knew the location of at least 11 rooms. All the McGreen children loved running around their big house, but there was one room that even they were afraid to enter. The attic. The attic was a very large one compared to other attics, but it was both more scarier. The children dreaded entering the room, and nobody ever ventured in.
Rose was playing with her doll after Kassia had went to find Kara. Then she heard a ear-piercing scream from up stairs. Both Rose and Elysia jumped up. "Who was that? What was that?" Elysia wimpered in a scared voice. "I don't know." Rose said back. Then they heard some foot steps hurrying down the stairs. The two girls huddled together and closed their eyes. Then they heard a familiar voice. It was Kassia! "Kassia!" Rose and Elysia exclaimed as they ran to their sister. Kassia hugged them, then looked at them carefully. "Was that scream from any of you?" she asked. "No, we thought it was from--" Rose's words were cut off by a doorball.
"Oh, it must be Lily or Adora." Kassia said as she walked up to the door. But the person who was standing there wasn't Lily or Adora. Instead, Adonis was standing with a stupid grin. "Adony! Why are you here?" Kassia asked. Adonis shrugged. "Well, my math academy finished rather quickly than usual. So I decided to come home more earlier. Anyway, what was that scream?" Rose spoke up. "I don't know, but I'm worried that it might be Kara." "What are you waiting for? Let's go find Kara!" Adonis said as he started up the stairs. Kassia looked troubled. "Er, but I think that scream came from the attic."
The children exchanged glances. "Are you sure?" Elysia said after a long silence. "I'm sure." Kassia said. "But what should we do now?" Rose asked. "Of course go to the, er, attic." Adonis said. "But--" "Kara is our sister. We should find out what's troubling her." There was nothing to say more. Adonis was already walking up the stairs. Rose and Kassia followed. "Wait for me!" Elysia said as she closed her book. "Don't leave me alone!"
The four McGreen children entered the attic with causion. "Are you sure this is a good idea?" Elysia whispered. "Just follow along!" Rose whispered back. "As Kassia said, Kara is--" Before Rose could finish her words, Adonis let out a squeak. "What is it?" Kassia said impatiently. "Look at that." Adonis pointed at the middle of the room. There was Kara, lying motioness on the floor.
