Okay, I'm not forcing anyone to think that The Hunger Games series is bad, I'm just giving my honest opinion about this series. So if you love this series or whatever, better off if you just ignore this writing. And I don't want "OH MY GOD, WHY WOULD YOU THINK THAT?!" crap from The Hunger Games fans, I'm just writing my opinion. Anyhow, let's get to the point.
First, The Hunger Games plot is completely ridiculous and boring.
The first book was quite thrilling actually, but the second book just declined(I mean another Hunger game?! How creative!) and the third book was a boring mess. And the Catching Fire storyline was very un-refreshing, and Katniss, the main character, kept using the Girl-On-Fire scenario, which was really annoying and boring. And in the third book, there is nothing but rebels and stuff, which is not a very interesting plot. In fact, I half-slept while I was reading it. After all this, I felt that I should have stopped with the first book, and never have read books 2 and 3. Catching fire and Mockingjay are very far from the initial story and way too diluted, compared to the first book.
Second, Katniss Everdeen' personality
She didn't seem to have much of a personality, actually. She's just a teen girl, but she's like, I'VE GOT TO SAVE EVERYTHING! I'M THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN DO IT. Seriously, it's so annoying. It's something that has been playing on my mind. Katniss, in my opinion, was a terrible main character choice, especially because the series were written in first-person. I believe that she wasn't a very deep character. She had things that affected her, like the death of her father, her mother's depression, etc. Yet it seemed like she lacked faith in anyone but herself. Even so, she didn't exactly make a massive effort to try and show compassion to people who she meant something to. Plus, I find Katniss to be bland and heavily undeveloped. I never progressed past the first book because her POV just does not interest me; She has the personality of a rock, seriously. And I don't think she's really good at timing stuff. Here is why I think that: Okay so, she hurts Peeta by telling she doesn't like him. I don't have any problem with that, but I'm saying that she is so ignorant. I mean, while the victory tour is right ahead of them, she completely ruins their relationship, as if she was trying to tell Panem, "Hey, man! Peeta and I are just acting out so that we can trick you guys!" As I read this part I was like, SHE'S GONE NUTS. And I personally don't like how sometimes she acted, especially the "Peeta and Gale" thing. I get she's not intentionally trying to hurt them or give them false hope, but I can swear that girl's changing over every chapter. One moment she's kissing Peeta and then kisses Gale cuz he's mad she kissed Peeta. I find myself wanting to slap her and shout, “Snap out of it." And as a reader, you’re trapped inside her head the entire time which drove me crazy.
Third, the fact that something like "Hunger Games" does exist, is something that is an eye-rolling-fact.
The annual kids murdering each other for an entertainment show?! What the HELL is this?! And laughing over them while they kill each other, that proves that Panem's are psychopathic NUTS. This is the fact that this book is no more than crap. And there's this Japanese movie called Battle Royale which is about kids who are forced to kill each other in games chosen by the government and given random supplies/weapons. This makes me wonder if Hunger Games really is the original. And sometimes in the book, the contents are a little forced. For ex) Katniss-Everdeen-has-to-win plot(Obvious and forced.). Back to the point, The Hunger Games is just not reality, and too out-of-hand. And if we see it logically, Katniss Everdeen is a murderer, as in, she'd killed Marvel, President Coin and stuff. Conclusion: Suzanne Collins set a killer for her book series.
Fourth, awkward vocab for a fantasy book series.
To me, Collins writes like a beginner (or at least a very untalented writer) because I get the feeling that she's often forcing things to make her sentences more complex. She'll sometimes just add a random big word or try to write really deep, abstract paragraphs that are supposed to be Katniss' thoughts, but it just reads like a bad writer trying to make their novel more gritty and "profound." Honestly, I bet Collins doesn't even realize that most of her writing is just one cliche after another. Seriously, it's rather exasperating. And it seems that Katniss Everdeen didn't get much of a "Proper education" in district 12(except hunting and practicing over killing folks), so it doesn't make much of a sense that Katniss knows all the words Collins uses⎯Complexed, and annoying. The book's plots are already messed up, and the choice of vocab literally makes the book suck.
Okay, so that was my opinion on The Hunger games series, and I don't mean any offense to this series' fans. Some of you guys might think I'm a psycho stuck-up weirdo jerk who hates this series, and I don't blame you 'cause there seem to be plenty of Hunger games fans around the world. But every person has their own thoughts and taste, and I'm just writing mine here. It seems like there's a bunch of teens here who love this series, and I'm very sorry if I'd upset anyone⎯Mind you, it's just my opinion! But me? I think this book's the worst book in the history of the world and it seems like this book series has never been published. A lot of it doesn't make sense in this story, and as it entered the Mockingjay, the story became a deadly weird-some novel(I'm not sure that I can even phase this thrash as a novel,). Many kids here might like this series cuz it's just awesome and cool, but I think this story sucks. And in case you guys don't know, I'm the type of person who enjoys thrillers(Shootings maybe?), but it's not even interesting when Katniss kills a person or when she shoots her arrow, thanks to Collins lack of writing skills.
Anyways, I'm not telling you guys to "NEVER READ THE HUNGER GAMES SERIES, IT'S THE RULE" or anything⎯Dude, I sound like an utter moron⎯I'm just sharing my insights. But mind you, I don't seriously recommend this book to you guys. But it's your choice and I won't bother with that. But for me, I'm better off reading The Maze Runner series, Tara Duncan and Harry Potter. Anyway, I'll shut up now, and my other apology if I'd made you upset. Thanks for reading this, and bye!
