Forsythia II

-The Last Story

Andy is now High School senior student and he is preparing for scholastic ability test. So he attend new English academy. There he saw a girl he liked and he is looking forward to be into her.

It was almost the end of Summer vacation. Andy was exhausted by the hot day and tremendous amount of studying. But he was glad not to study in the academy every morning and be with his friends in school. And other point, he could see the girl as usual. The days of the High School senior life quickly pass by, and It’s almost November. One day, Andy was about to leave the house for going to English academy the rain started to falling down. But Andy was not distracted by that. He was thinking about the girl. This day was a last day of attending academy before the scholastic ability test. After class, we say goodbye to all the person in class. When we came down to first floor, I was nervous how to say to the girl. But before I could say, the girl said to me “Come, Let me hug you.” I was too embarrassed because there were few people from the class that are waiting for their parents in this weather. But I let her to hug me tight. It was the first time that a girl in my age hugged me, so I treasured it. We talked for a few minutes and the girl left with her mother. I was the last to leave the building. When I was in my father’s car, I kept looking at my phone. I had asked the girl for the phone number and she gave her number without hesitation. So we exchanged the number before she hugged me at the first floor. I was still blushed by a girl’s hug and how I had a courage to ask her a phone number. But it doesn’t matter now. I had her phone number and I send her a message saying ‘It’s me Andy, get home safely!’

It was 2 days before the scholastic ability test and I was in the Korean Language academy. I’m in good terms with the girl after we exchanged phone numbers. And we had lots of messages and phone call each other. When the academy was finished I hurried outside. Because the girl was coming for me to give me a present. This was a common event to give a present for a test-takers wishing for a good luck. But I haven’t took a present for a girl in my life. I waited impatiently.

She was only in a school next to our academy. Finally the girl arrived with two of her friends. She gave me a present and with a hug she left. While walking toward home, I was thinking about our relationships. We were not couples, but we act like normal couples. But I didn’t get to hasty. I thought for myself ‘I will say to her that I like her when the test was over.’

It was already December and I was in my school classroom. It was the day that the report of scholastic ability test. When I took my report card, I was devastated by the grade. I have to retest. When I was walking toward home, I called to the girl. She had a grade not bad enough and she will go to University similar to her grade. I have to go to a University that she will go in my grade now, but I was too devastated by how low that the grade I have. She said she was in PC room now so I decided to go there. I did not want to think more about the grade that I have. I bought a drink for her and When I arrived she was already playing games. She thanked me for a drink and she and I played games for about and hour. We walked home after we left PC room. She asked me how will I do next. I said “It’s no choice to get retest. I want to go higher one.” She said good luck to me. When we arrived in front of her home. I hugged her as usual but I do not realized that I will be a last hug.

It was April and I was heading to Military Manpower Administration. It was a day that I have to get a physical exam. I was nervous because it was my first time having physical exam, but I was little relieved to see few of my friends were there in the same day. It took about 3 or 4 hours to finish all the schedule. When I walked outside, I saw few couples(girlfriend) who are waiting for their boyfriends. Immediately, I thought about Rosa(the girl that I liked). I called to her on my way back to my home. It was not far, so I preferred to take a walk. Although it was April, the wind blew like winter and cold as well. Rosa answered the phone almost immediately. I told her that I took physical exam at Military Manpower Administration and now I had finished and walking back home. She said I had well done doing it and I asked what she was doing. She said that she was at home doing nothing. At right after that she said she had a boyfriend. I was shocked by this news. And at that moment I couldn’t think anything in my head. But I said congratulations to her and wishing good luck. We then hung up our phones.

After I hung up my phone, I kept thinking about Rosa mentioning her boyfriend. It was very unexpected news for me so I couldn’t hold back my tears. It was like the cold weather was meant for this news. While thinking about it, I saw a tree at the side of the road. I went closer and saw it was Forsythia. For a moment, it overwhelmed me so I stood for a while staring at it. And then I smiled and walked away. The gentle wind blew when I walk passed it and the tree branch waved like it was a hand waving at me. In my mind remained ‘Hope’.
